Soil heat flux plays an important role in energy flux exchange between land and atmosphere, especially in arid and semi-arid region. Based on soil heat flux at Zhangye National Climate Observatory, the diurnal variation of soil heat flux and the relationship between that and radiation flux are analyzed under different weather conditions for clear, cloudy and rainy day.The results show that the soil accepted heat from the air on clear day, on the contrary, the output heat of soil exceeded the input on cloudy and rainy day. In addition, most values of soil heat flux are negative in autumn and winter season, and positive in spring and summer .

Based on five - layer wind speed, air temperature, humidity and vapor p ressure of the gradient tower of Zhangye National Climate Observatory built in 2007 from Sep tember 2007 to August 2008, the percentage of missing value was calculated, and the climate characteristics of Zhangye in different seasons were also analyzed. The reliability of data from the gradient towerwas checked by comparing with some other observational stations.

Turbulen t - Eddy Closure Scheme for Two - D imen siona l Homogeneous Turbulen t Shear Flow
DIAO Jian-Hua, ZHANG Jiang
J4    2010, 28 (1): 8-19.
Abstract1548)      PDF(pc) (558KB)(2563)       Save

After anatomizing the typ ical experiments for turbulence by Thorpe andWoods et al. , some results are obtained as follows:(1) a Taichimodel for turbulence is brought forward; (2) The cascade of turbulence includes two basic contents: one is the small -scale eddies resulted from the large - scale eddies by their inward - rotation motions, the other is the hypo - scale eddies originated from the frontwhich is a bigger - speed - shear interface separating the fluids from each other; (3) The dissipative mechanism of turbulence is associated with the frontwhich always tends to be drawn very long. As a result, the interface linking two fluids is extended infinitely and the p rocess of the molecular diffusion between the interface is then highly enhanced to achieve the high effective diffusion of turbulence; (4) An eddy closure scheme is brought forward to close the Reynolds equations; (5) The mixing length is equal to the outer radius of a turbulent eddy, while Karman constant is a function of ratio of inner radius to outer radius of the eddy; (6) By the ideas of operator and turbulent operator, the actual turbulent dynamical equations are deduced; (7) The invariance p rincip le of relationship is brought forward. What’smore, counter - gradient transport and eddy relationology are also discussed.

The Effects of Global Warming on Economy,Society and Ecological Environment
in Gansu Province and the Countermeasures
SONG Lian-Chun, ZHANG Jiang, SUN Guo-Wu, DIAO Jian-Hua, ZHENG Yong-Yi
J4    2004, 22 (2): 69-75.
Abstract1538)      PDF(pc) (208KB)(2310)       Save

The fact of global warming and the effects on ecological environment, society and economy in Gansu province in the background of global warming are analyzed with the interrelated materials in this paper.
The countermeasures against climate change andsustainable development are shown too.And those,to Gansu province, can be summed up as two primary problems.First is water problem.Water problem is primarily to utilize reasonably, manage efficiently, save water, exploit and utilize water resources by precipitation enhancement over the Mountain Qilian. Second is sand problem. The problem is crucially to hold back the process of desertification. As this paper’sview, this holding back can be realized by the optimum project for recovering vegetation which would be abstract edby quantitatively calculating the categories distribution, run and carrying capacity of local forest and grassp lanted by using Regional Climate-Ecology Mode according to ecological environment sincluding terrain, physiognomy, climatehydrology, soil and so on.

Discussion of Connected Vessels Effect of Hexi Corrido
DIAO Jian-Hua
J4    2004, 22 (1): 90-94.
Abstract1079)      PDF(pc) (178KB)(1908)       Save

Three effects(siphon effect、connected vessels effect and narrow pipe effect)have been analyzed and discussed in Hexi corridor in this paper.
The results indicate that:siphon effect mainly supplies the matter and energy transformations, connected vesselseffect is to start vertical movement、excitated gravity wave probably and produce phenomena of teetertotter, while narrow pipe effectis to increase velocity.Otherwise the uses of Hexi corridor’s joint ware effect are discussed also intheend.

Contrast Analysis on The Atmospheric Circulation Between Active And Inactive Years of Spring Sandstorms in Gansu
SHU E-Xun, DIAO Jian-Hua
J4    2003, 21 (3): 48-57.
Abstract1479)      PDF(pc) (606KB)(1565)       Save

Based upon the regional sandstorm records in Cransu, the geopotential height, temperature and wind fields at mandatory levels generated by NCEP/ NCAR reanalysis dataset(2. 50 X2. 50Lat/Lon) for 46 years(1955一2000),The 5 active sandstorm years and the 5 inactive sandstorm years in spring over Cransu are selected respectively to contrast the difference on the large一scale atmospheric circulation and the relevant即namical and thermo即namic factors.  The results show that the climatic circulation bac掩rounds between more and less spring sandstorm in Cransu are evidently different.  Therefore,it is revealed the facts that the anomalies of the largescale circulation and the relevant勿namic and thermodynamic factors can result in the formation of firing sandstorm in Cransu.  So that the climatic causes of sandstorm in Northwest China can be understood very well. Abovepreliminary results have some novel and applied value for the climatic prediction of the sandstorm in Northwest China.
